pilates classes
one-to-one and small-group classes at gosforth and jesmond. built for recovery, posture and core stability.
what to expect.
pilates targets the slow-twitch stability muscles responsible for maintaining upright posture and supporting joints. for the body to function well we need synergy between the mobilising muscles and the stabilising ones — and most of us have let the stabilisers slip.
pilates exercises activate and strengthen stability muscles throughout the body, using primarily bodyweight, with emphasis on movement control, posture and breathing. the programme particularly benefits core stability — the spinal and trunk muscles critical for supporting the lower back.
research shows that low back pain can inhibit these core muscles. a programme of core stability exercises reactivates them and helps reduce low back pain.
